Program

“To hear a child interpret Beethoven’s Appassionata, Chopin’s First Ballade and Chromatic Etude, Liszt’s Au bord d’une source, Bach’s Chromatic Fantasy,  Messiaen’s Isle de feu, and the Finale of the Second Piano Concerto by Brahms already blows your mind away.  But to discover within this little being much more than a prodigy, an authentic and thrilling artist, is simply overwhelming.

-Piano Magazine (Paris, 2004)

Lorenzo was born in 1992 in Lyon, France to a French father and Peruvian mother, the fourth child in a family of professional musicians.  At age 12, he is garnering impressive reviews. Showing a perfect pitch at age 2, Lorenzo began studying the piano with his mother, and continued with Jean Fassina, Thierry Barbier and presently Olivier Gardon at the Conservatoire National Superieur in Paris. At 10, he gave his first concerto with orchestra in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1. His repertoire shows a great diversity of styles and periods, spanning from Bach and Scarlatti to Debussy and Messiaen. His awards include winning the 2003 European Music Competition in Picardie and the 2003 Maison Laffitte Prize. Recent engagements featured recitals in France and in Portugal at the Castelo Branco International Festival; and in 2004, Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto in Saint-Malo, France. He participated in the Bowdoin International Music Festival (Maine) as a full-scholarship student of Ms. Yoheved Kaplinsky, and attended the Salzburg International Masterclasses, where he was chosen to perform in the Mozarteum. Lorenzo studies analysis, harmony, solfege, and chamber music. He also enjoys History, English and Latin, reading, playing chess and swimming.
